The Ministry of National Security reported the arrest of four people accused of trafficking in arms and ammunition and drug smuggling from Iran. Four citizens of Azerbaijan - Aftandil Mehdiyev Zaur Mehdiyev, Rauf Mirzoyev and Namik Hasanov, were arrested on these charges.
During the search, from these persons were seized two guns "Makarov" and 33 cartridges, one pistol revolver and five cartridges, 2.5 kg of gold and 641 grams of silver jewellery, as well as a large quantity of heroin, opium and marijuana (the exact number is not specified - Ed.) A sharp decrease in crime has been recorded in Azerbaijan during the first seven months of 2024, marking a significant achievement in the country’s efforts to enhance public safety and law enforcement efficiency. According to data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 18,518 crimes were registered from January to July 2024, which is 21.7% less than the same period in 2023.
