Nakhchivan Opposition Leader at Large
Zeynal Bagirzadeh, an activist of the Popular Front Party convicted in Nakhchivan, was released early today. Turan was informed about this by his brother, head of the regional organization of the Popular Front Party Yashar Bagirsoy.
According to him, the Kangarli district court of Nakhchivan decided to early release Bagirzadeh for health reasons.
Bagirzadeh was arrested on November 16, 2015 on charges of violence against government officials, and sentenced to 4 years in prison. Later, by this date, an additional term for another case was added, bringing the total term of imprisonment to 8 years. On February 21, the Supreme Court upheld the verdict.
Bagirzadeh denied the charges, considering his arrest politically motivated. In relation to him, provocation was carried out by the employees of the State Social Protection Fund.
Human rights organizations recognized Bagirzadeh as a political prisoner. -06B--
