New Charge Put Forward against Adviser to PFPA Chairman
Baku / 29.09.18 / Turan: The adviser to the Chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), Mammad Ibrahim, was charged on the day of completion of his three-year prison sentence. Turan was informed about it by his son Turan Ibrahim.
Two days ago, M. Ibrahim was imprisoned in a punishment cell allegedly because of the discovery of a knife under his pillow. M. Ibrahim started a hunger strike in protest. However, on September 28, the head of the prison received M. Ibrahim"s son and assured him that his father would be released on September 29.
When members of the family and associates came to meet M. Ibrahim in the morning, they were told that he had been taken to the Kurdakhany detention center. The reasons were not explained.
Later, the activist's son was told that M. Ibrahim was charged under Article 317-2.1 (possession of a prohibited object in the penitentiary institution) of the Criminal Code, according to which he faces up to 6 months of imprisonment. The court selected a measure of restraint in the form of arrest for two months against M/ Ibrahim.
Supporters of PFPA angered with the treacherous behavior of the prison authorities held a protest action in front of the prison, chanting: "Freedom! Freedom!".
Recall that M. Ibrahim was arrested on September 30, 2015 and subsequently convicted under Article 221.2.2 (hooliganism with police resistance) of the Criminal Code for 3 years of imprisonment. He is recognized as a political prisoner by human rights activists. -06B-
