New Head of Bar Association - Anar Bagirov
Baku / 07.12.17 / Turan: Anar Bagirov (1976) was elected chairman of the Bar Association at today's Bar Association conference.
This was expected, since after the resignation of the former chairman of Azer Tagiyev, Bagirov spoke in the media and made statements in support of the legal policy of the authorities.
So, he zealously supported the amendments to the legislation restricting the institution of representation of citizens in the courts.
In addition, Bagirov was one of the active supporters of the recent expulsion from the Bar Association of the well-known defender of political prisoners Yalchin Imanov.
The Bar is formally an independent structure. However, in practice, the authorities control and expel from its ranks those who defend the rights of opponents of the authorities. So, in recent years a number of well-known lawyers have been excluded from the Bar: Khalid Bagirov, Elchin Namazov, Alaif Hasanov, Aslan Ismayilov, and earlier Namizad Safarov and Gurban Mammadov. -06B--
