New Trial of Mammad Ibrahim Begins
Baku / 16.11.18 / Turan: Next week another trial of the adviser to the chairman of the Popular Front Party Mammad Ibrahim will start. The preparatory meeting was scheduled for November 19 in the Surakhani Court of Baku, his lawyer Javad Javadov told Turan.
Recall that Mammad Ibrahim was arrested on September 30, 2015 and convicted on charges of hooliganism for 3 years. He was recognized by human rights activists as a political prisoner.
The day before the end of the term, he was charged with a new charge of illegal possession of prohibited items (knife), which threatens him with up to 6 months of imprisonment. On September 28, the Yasamal Court arrested him for 2 months.
The defense intends to seek a cessation of the criminal prosecution of M. Ibrahim. Earlier, his son Turan Ibrahim said the investigation did not provide reliable evidence against the opposition activist.
According to him, there is no direct evidence that the piercing-cutting object belongs to his father. "At the request of a lawyer, an examination was held to determine whether my father"s fingerprints were on the knife. The experts concluded that there was no trace of my father"s fingers on the knife," said T. Ibrahim. -06D-
