Shahin Novruzlu, an activist of NIDA Movement, who wrote an application for clemency, did not abandon the appeal, and insists on a verdict of acquittal, Turan was told by his lawyer, Nemat Kerimli.
On July 11 Novruzlu attended the trial in the Baku Appeal Court (BAC) while considering an application of NIDA activists. Novruzlu was there with the other defendants in the same cage, and there were no problems between them.
Fariz Namazli, a lawyer of Mamed Azizov told Turan, that all the defendants of the accused intend to file an appeal against the decision of BAC, which rejected the request for a re-trial.
In this regard, the hearing was postponed to July 18.
* On May 6, 2014 Baku Serious Crimes Court found Shahin Novruzlu, Mammad Azizov, Bakhtiyar Guliyev, Rashad Hasanov, Uzeyir Mammadli, Rashadata Akhundov, Zaur Gurbanly, and Ilkin Rustamzade guilty of planning riots during a protest on March 10, 2013, illegal possession of explosives and narcotics, as well as disorderly conduct, and sentenced them to prison terms ranging from 6 to 8 years.
Later Bakhtiyar Guliyev wrote a petition for pardon, and abandoned his appeal. Amnesty International has recognized all convicted "prisoners of conscience". -16/06D-
