On February 9, Sleet and Snow Expected in Baku and on the Absheron Peninsula

Azerbaijan is set to experience wet and cold weather conditions, with rain and snowfall expected in Baku and across the Absheron Peninsula. The National Hydrometeorology Service forecasts that strong northwesterly winds will gradually weaken throughout the day.

In the capital, temperatures are expected to range from -1°C to +1°C at night, with daytime highs reaching 1-3°C. Atmospheric pressure is recorded at 772 mm Hg, while relative humidity is forecasted to remain between 65-75%.

Snowfall and fog expected in the regions

Precipitation is also expected across Azerbaijan’s regions, with snowfall likely in mountainous and foothill areas. Foggy conditions may reduce visibility in some locations, and moderate easterly winds will prevail.

Extreme cold grips mountainous areas

Temperatures in the regions will vary significantly, with nighttime lows ranging from -2°C to -3°C, and daytime temperatures between -3°C and +7°C. However, in the mountains, much harsher conditions will persist, with night-time temperatures dropping to -8°C to -13°C, and in high-altitude areas, extreme lows of -15°C to -20°C are expected. Daytime temperatures in these areas will remain between -3°C and -8°C.

Authorities have warned of possible icy conditions, particularly in some mountainous regions, where roads may be affected by black ice during the night and early morning hours.

The latest forecast underscores the continuing impact of winter across Azerbaijan, posing challenges for transportation and daily activities, especially in highland regions.
