Parliament to Consider Law "On the Protection of Reproductive Health"

The Committee on Social Policy of the Milli Majlis is concerned about protection of reproductive health. Today's meeting discussed and recommended to the parliamentary discussion of the bill with the same name. According to Khadi Rajabli, deputy chair of the committee, the adoption and faithful implementation of the document is important in terms of the genetic health of the nation. The project reflects the priority of the protection of maternal health, the right to freedom of reproductive choice and privacy of reproduction. It reflects the privacy, the right to receive services and related information to the responsible government agencies. Treatment of infertility, consent for the use of assisted reproductive technologies, the use of donor germ cells are also reflected in the articles of the future law.

In vitro fertilization (IVF) donors may be men or women under the age of 35 years old, married with children, do not suffer from physical or mental illness, and willing to disclose relevant past medical and genetic testing.

People seeking the service of a potential IVF donor have the right to receive information about the nationality, education, occupation and physical appearance of the donor, to be provided by a doctor. Officially, married persons may be an IVF donor with written permission of the donor’s wife or husband.

One person can be an IVF donor for up to five families. The donor can exercise control over this part of the procedure in specialized medical institutions.

The bill also reflected concern for families needing of special social support, those who have been unable to have children for 10 years or more due to the infertility of one or both spouses. These families have the right to one-time free access to IVF and embryo placement in public health facilities.

The use of human embryos for commercial, military and industrial applications is prohibited. --17D—
