Parole Commission Examines 66 Applications
Baku / 19.04.17 / Turan: Forty applications for parole and 26 for transferring from a regular prison to a prison settlement were examined by the Commission on Parole who visited the mixed-regime prison No.17 on 18 April.
During the consideration of cases involving the convicts themselves, 57 of them (86%) received a positive opinion, which will be sent to the district court in addition to the prisoners' statement, the Human Rights Center of Azerbaijan reports.
The Commission, which was established four years ago on the initiative of the Minister of Justice, includes members of various structures of the Ministry of Justice, as well as members of the Public Committee under the Minister.
When considering cases of mitigation of the detention regime or parole in the court, the Commission acts as a third party, supporting the applicant's interests.
The report says that in prison No. 17 there are cured tuberculosis, AIDS and hepatitis patients. They are kept separately from healthy prisoners. There are a lot of drug addicts. Recommended for release are those, who received treatment, reconciled with the victims, paid the due compensation for the damages, and showed good behavior. -0-

In the last two days, a "news" story appeared on TikTok about a whale spotted on Baku's seaside boulevard. The most "observant" users posted videos, commenting on the size of the animal. Later, other "witnesses" claimed it wasn't a whale, but a shark. Even later, a version emerged suggesting it was a submarine.
