People involved in the action in Gezi Park in Turkey are charged

On December 10 the Turkish prosecutors filed different charges against  255 protesters , including seven foreigners , for participating in the protests  in Istanbul and other cities around the country last summer, the local media reported .

Charges range from violation of the laws on public meetings to damage to places of worship and harboring criminals.

Mass protests began in Turkey  with the actions of environmentalists protesting against the felling of Gezi Park in the center of Istanbul. Tens of thousands of supporters  joined the demonstrators, and their  demands were quickly replaced by political demands for the resignation of the Erdogan government.

To disperse the protesters, police used water cannons, batons, tear gas and specialist equipment designed to disperse crowds . As a result, at least six people were killed and eight thousand were injured. Prime Minister Erdogan has repeatedly called the protesters criminals, and promised to severely punish them. -02D-
