PFPA Activist Arrested for 15 Days in Sheki
The head of the youth branch of the Sheki district organization of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Samir Hasanov has been arrested for 15 days.
He was taken into custody on April 28 after a group of PFPA activists visited the Alley of Martyrs on the occasion of Republic Day. From another activist, Islam Hasanov, the police seized the camera and erased the pictures taken at the event. On Sunday, Samir Hasanov was taken to the Sheki District Court. With regard to him, a report was drawn up on "petty hooliganism", Turan was told by a local activist. During the closed hearing the activist was sentenced to 15 days of arrest. Meanwhile the police unofficially told his family the young man was arrested for his opposition activity and publications on Facebook, where he wrote about the unemployment problem in Sheki and shared the statuses from the PFPA leader Ali Kerimli and the Deputy Chairman of the party Gezal Bayramli. -06D-

A fire has erupted at the Experimental and Testing Production of the Scientific Research Institute of SOCAR (the state oil company) in the Surakhani district of Baku, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported. "Thanks to the urgent and necessary measures taken by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the spread of the fire to neighboring areas, including nearby residential buildings, has been prevented," the statement reads. Efforts to extinguish the fire are still ongoing.
