Political Prisoner Goes on Hunger Strike
Baku / 08.09.18 / Turan: Murad Adilov, an activist of the Popular Front Party, convicted on false charges of drug possession, went on a hunger strike in prison No. 5. His brother Natig Adilov reported, that Murad is protesting against the decision of the Narimanov court on September 5, which refused to release him on parole.
"Murad has been in prison for five years for nothing, during this time he had serious health problems, and the last court decision caused him serious moral trauma," said Natig Adilov. The court rejected the appeal on parole because of the negative characteristics of the administration of the colony. She found it impossible for him to be released early due to a reprimand made because of smoking in an improper place.
Adilov was arrested in August 2014 in Sabirabad on charges of illicit drug trafficking. On May 14, 2015, he was sentenced to six years in prison. He is the brother of Natiq Adilov, the press secretary of the PFPA, the observer of the newspaper Azadlyg and the leading satellite television program "Azerbaijan Hour", who is now living abroad.
According to human rights defenders, M. Adilov is being persecuted because of his brother's journalistic activities, sharply criticizing the authorities of Azerbaijan.
Amnesty International recognized M. Adilov as a "prisoner of conscience". -05D-
