Political Prisoners in Spotlight of Committee to Protect Civil Society
The Committee to Protect Civil Society at its meeting on August 20 discussed a number of current issues on the agenda.
In particular, they discussed the latest court decisions in relation to the spouses Leila and Arif Yunus, who were sentenced to long terms of imprisonment, the course of the trial of the journalist Khadija Ismayilova, the murder of the journalist Rasim Aliyev, as well as the position of the political prisoners in detention.
After discussions, the committee agreed on the need for coordination with the aim of more efficient cooperation in the field of civil society and the creation of conditions for its full activity.
One of the main tasks of the committee members is to improve the conditions of prisoners and detainees in general, under the current legislation, as well as the implementation of measures for the release of all political prisoners and the release from prison of convicted persons in the statutory time.
