Preparatory Hearing of Court in Fuad Ahmadli Case

Baku / 13.04.17 / Turan: A preparatory meeting on the case of the People's Front Party activist Fuad Ahmadli started under the chairmanship of Fikrat Garibov at the Baku Grave Crimes Court. The preparatory meeting will continue on April 25 at 10 a.m.

The defendant himself said the conditions of his detention in the detention center are normal, but there are health problems. He rejects the accusation and is dissatisfied with the way the investigation was conducted. “The script is poorly drafted,” he mocked, answering a question from Turan IA.

The lawyer Asabali Mustafayev said, in turn, Ahmadli's actions do not constitute a crime.

“We have prepared several motions, and if the court is objective, then the case must be terminated,” said the lawyer.

“Fuad Ahmadli had health problems before his arrest. In the jail they became aggravated. I applied for a medical examination, but the investigative and judicial bodies ignored the information I provided. Representatives of the Red Cross visited Ahmadli and confirmed the presence of health problems at him,” said the lawyer.

The PFPA leader Ali Kerimli said the courts in Azerbaijan do not reject falsified charges. However, it is necessary to pass this stage, so that you can then apply to the ECHR.

Kerimli said Ahmadli was arrested on slanderous charges as part of a campaign to pressure the PFPA.

* The PFPA activist Fuad Ahmadli was arrested on August 18, 2016. He is charged under articles 302 (violation of the law on operative-search activity) and 308-1 (abuse of official powers) of the Criminal Code.

In a joint statement of the Prosecutor General's Office and the State Security Service it is said that Fuad Ahmadli, who worked as an operator at Azerfon Call Center, handed private information, printout of calls and other classified information to individuals. Ahmadli also appears to be a person connected with the network of Fethullah Gulen. It is alleged that leaflets related to Gulen were found in Ahmadli's house. On March 6, the prosecution was re-qualified into a more serious article 308.2, under which he faces up to 8 years of imprisonment.

However, Ahmadli rejects this accusation and considers it to be fabricated and politically motivated.

Human rights organizations recognize him as a political prisoner. -03B06-
