Prosecutor Offers to Sentence Bayram Mammadov to Ten Years in Prison
The prosecutor spoke with concludin g remarks in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes at the trial of the NIDA movement activist Bayram Mammadov, accused of drug trafficking, on December 2. He proposed to sentence Mammadov to 10.5 years in prison.
Mammadov denied the accusation and said he was arrested for writing slogans on the monument to Heydar Aliyev.
The next meeting is scheduled for 9 December.
Recall that Giyas Ibrahimov and Bayram Mammadov were arrested on May 10 on charges of drug trafficking. However, the true reason for their arrest was graffiti on the monument to Heydar Aliyev: "Congratulations on the slavery day!" and "Down with the system!".
Amnesty International recognized the activists as "prisoners of conscience". Ibrahimov was sentenced to 10 years in prison on October 25. -16C-
