Movsum Samedov Brought Back to Prison and Immediately Put in Solitary Confinement
The Chairman of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IPA) Movsum Samedov immediately after his return to Prison number 12 was put in a solitary confinement cell. His lawyer Yalcin Imanov told Turan.
Samedov was arrested in January 2011 after he severely criticized the Azerbaijani authorities for corruption and violation of the rights of believers. On October 7 of that year, Samedov and a number of IPA activists and theologians were sentenced to long prison terms on charges of illegal possession of weapons, trying to seize power, and others. Samedov received a 12-year prison sentence.
On October 9, 2014 by the decision of the Garadagh District Court Samedov was transferred from Prison No 12 to the Gobustan prison with strict regime for 2 years.
According to the lawyer Imanov, the 2-year term in the Gobustan jail expired on 28 November. The next day he was transferred to Prison No 12, where he had previously served the sentence.
Immediately after his arrival at the prison Samedov was put in solitary confinement for 15 days.
The lawyer considers Samedov’s solitary confinement immediately after his arrival at the jail illegal. -06D--
