Prosecutor Urges to Sentence Khadija Ismayilova to 9 Years in Jail
The State Prosecutor Ramazan Hadiyev, speaking today at the trial, called the court to sentence the journalist Khadija Ismayilova to 9 years in prison.
According to the prosecutor, the court investigation proved the guilt of Ismayilova on all counts.
Commenting on the speech of the prosecutor for Turan, the lawyer Fariz Namazly said that the defense does not agree with the prosecutor and will require justification of Ismayilova.
Recall that Ismayilova is charged under the articles 125 of the Criminal Code (incitement to suicide), 179.3.2 (misappropriation and embezzlement on a large scale), 192.2.2 (illegal business with extraction of large income) 213.1 (tax evasion) and 308.2 (abuse of power resulting in grave consequences).
Ismayilova denies the charges and says they are politically motivated.
Amnesty International recognizes the journalist "prisoner of conscience". The US, EU, international media and human rights organizations have repeatedly called for her release. -03C16-
