Rally in Support of Nadezhda Savchenko in Baku
On Thursday at 12 a.m. in front of the Russian Embassy in Baku a protest action was held, demanding to release the Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko.
The action was organized by activists of the D18 movement that were holding posters with the images of Savchenko and the convicted Azerbaijani journalist Khadija Ismayilova.
Recall that the court of the -Russian city of Donetsk sentenced Savchenko to 22 years in prison. Despite the insistent demands of the world community, Moscow pretends that it is not involved in what is happening and refuses to release the pilot who defended her land from the Russian occupiers.
The leader of D18 Ruslan Izzatli read a resolution of the picket, which said that the illegal sentence on Savchenko is a violation of international law.
The protesters strongly condemned this judgment and demanded the immediate release of the brave pilot, who in her last speech at the trial exposed the "essence of Putin's regime."
"Issues of democracy are not an internal problem. We demand the release of all those who suffered in the struggle for the ideals of democracy. Therefore, we came here with portraits of Savchenko and Ismayilova. While there is Putin's regime, the struggle for democracy in the CIS will be hard," Izzatli said.
However, none of the Russian Embassy came out to the protesters or accepted the resolution. However, one of the employees of the Embassy shot the protest with a mobile phone camera from a car window.
Police did not interfere with holding the rally. -03C-
