Residents of Bilasuvar protest because of water deficit
Baku/28.07.21/Turan: On July 28, a large group of residents of the villages of Yukhari Gyurali and Tazakend of the Bilasuvar region (179 km from Baku) tried to block the road in front of the local executive power.
The police detained some of the participants, taking them to the police station. After a preventive conversation, they were released. However, the executive power received some of the protesters.
The reason for the protest action was an acute shortage of water and the arbitrariness of state officials who abuse their position, depriving ordinary farmers of water for irrigating fields. Officials direct water to their lands and farms under their control.
The problem was exacerbated by the fact that officials actually appropriated the water flowing through the canal from the Araz River. Due to the lowering of the water level in the river, the situation has worsened even more.
Ihtiyar Agayev, a resident of the village of Ismetli, told Turan that the harvest of cotton, vegetables and wheat is dying due to a shortage of water. -03B-
