Rosberg Becomes First Winner in History of F1 Race in Baku

Debut Grand Prix on the streets of the capital of Azerbaijan completed with the first success of the leader of this season since April. Sebastian Vettel and Sergio Perez won, while Daniil Kvyat gave up on the first circles.

After the exciting GP2 races, Formula 1 also waited for events, but on Sunday the Grand Prix of Europe turned out quite calm. Nico Rosberg started from the pole position and confidently controlled the course of events up to the finish, winning for the 19th time in his career, and his partner in Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton, having started tenth, was only able to break up to the fifth place. Now between the riders there is a gap of 24 points.

Daniel Ricardo started second, but in the race the Red Bull conceded the Ferrari: after a few circles the Australian was overtaken by Sebastian Vettel. Early pit stop brought to the second place another rider of Scuderia Kimi Raikkonen, but the Finnish was punished with a five-second penalty for crossing the white line at the return to the track, and the team asked him to make a castling with a partner.

The author of the second qualifying result Sergio Perez was able to regain almost all the positions which he had lost because of the replacement of the gearbox. The Mexican with Force India was quick and caught Raikkonen under the finish. It could seem that the notorious five seconds would lead to a rearrangement of the protocol, but the Force India driver made a successful attack in the first corner of the final round, completely depriving Kimi of the opportunity to step on the podium and winning the second prize finish in three races. -0-
