Tension around the "Juma Mosque" in Sumgait was eliminated as a result of measures taken by the State Committee for Work with Religious Structures (SCWRS) reads the information of this structure.
At the end of last week, the followers of the Salafist currents of Islam began to come to the mosque to chose their imam. This caused indignation among traditional community of the mosque. However, the Salafis have continued to go to the mosque and prayed separately.
The problem was eliminated with the participation of representatives of SCWRS, executive and law enforcement agencies of the city, without administrative intervention.
SCWRS, recognizing the rights of believers to freely perform religious rites, notes that holiday, the Friday prayers and other collective namaz must be committed by Akhunds, appointed by the Caucasian Muslim Board.—16D06-
