Seven People Arrested in Football Riots in Lankaran
A criminal case was filed in connection with an incident during a football match between Khazar-Lankaran and Neftchi, held in Lankaran on August 25 at the IV round of the Premier League of Azerbaijan. The Interior Ministry told Turan that the case was filed by the Lankaran police regarding Article 221.3 (hooliganism with the use of weapons or objects as weapons); 7 people were arrested.
The riots were put down with the help of soldiers of internal troops. Law enforcement officers and fans were injured. According to unofficial information, the incident started because of a provocation from Khazar-Lankaran fans who, after the first half, gathered in front of the sector where the fans of Baku Neftchi were, and began chanting slogans and insults. The altercation escalated into a brawl.
To calm the fans, the police and internal troops intervened. According to witnesses, tear gas was used. As a result of the incident, the stadium was severely damaged, police said.
The match ended in a draw.- 0:0. -16B04-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
