State Department recalls its citizens to be vigilant in relation to European Games

The US State Department issued a Security Reminder During European Games

to its citizens. As the European Games approach their halfway mark, the U.S. Embassy in Baku is issuing a general security reminder for all U.S. Citizens to help ensure that the second half of the Games is as safe and successful as the first. The Department of State remains concerned about the continued threat of terrorist attacks, demonstrations, and other violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests overseas. We encourage U.S. citizens to familiarize themselves with the World Wide Caution updated January 9, 2015. Americans are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement authorities and the U.S. Embassy. We recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Azerbaijan enroll in the Department of State's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). The STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. Embassy to contact you in an emergency. If you do not have Internet access, you can enroll directly with the U.S. Embassy. We encourage you to follow us on Twitter and Facebook. You can also download our free Smart Traveler app, available through the iTunes store and the Google Play store, for travel information at your fingertips.

It should be noted that in recent years in Azerbaijan there were several crimes against US citizens. The loudest was the murder  of John Elvis, the representative of the National Institute of the United States John Elvis in the house in November 2000. -02D-
