Supreme Court Dismisses Complaint from Chief of McDonalds

The Supreme Court of Azerbaijan chaired by Imran Hajigaibov on May 24 considered the cassation by the Director of McDonalds Azerbaijan Magsud Mirzoyev. The complaint was filed in connection with the death of his son, 16-year-old Sanan, in a traffic accident on September 27, 2014.

On May 12, 2015 the Baku Court of Grave Crimes convicted Ilham Askerli (son of the head of the Executive Power of the Nasimi district) to 5.6 years of imprisonment as the culprit in Sanan’s death. However, on June 29 the Baku Court of Appeal commuted Askerli, reducing the sentence to 3 years of imprisonment. On November 12, 2015 the Sabunchu District Court freed Askerli from punishment due to illness.

The Supreme Court upheld the decision on Askerli that caused discontent of the injured party.

"Ilham Askerli three days after release from prison appeared abroad. They sent me a photo of him in a cafe. Then I learned that he was released," Magsud Mirzoyev told the Azerbaijani service of Radio Liberty.

"I will report to the President as it is. I know how much the freedom of Ilham Askerli cost to his family, how much money to whom was transferred. I tell you all this. On the one hand the President gives instructions on the suppression of outrages committed by the children of bureaucrats, but and on the other, these guidelines are not met," Mirzoyev said. -06D--
