Tale Bagirzade goes on a hunger strike
Bakui/06.06.22/Turan: The leader of the Muslim Unity Movement (MUM), Tale Bagirzade, who is serving a long prison sentence, has been on a hunger strike since June 3. He protests against the torture of believers by the police and insults by law enforcement officers of Allah.
Bagirzade's wife, Leyla Ismayilzade, told Turan, on May 20, five believers were detained in front of the Baku Serious Crimes Court and then tortured. The detainees introduced themselves as employees of the State Security Service.
“Torturing the detainees, these persons cursed Allah with foul language. Taleh protests against this and demands the punishment of these persons. Torture is not new, but insulting Allah is already the transition of all facets,” Ismayilzadeh said.
According to her, on June 3, Bagirzade officially notified the head of the Gobustan covered prison about the hunger strike. On June 5, Ismailzade spoke to her husband on the phone. He said that there are no health problems and he will starve until the end,” Ismayilzadeh said.
It was not possible to get comments in the department of public relations of the Penitentiary Service. In turn, the press service of the State Security Service told Turan that blasphemy on the part of the SSS officers is not true.
On May 20, the Baku Serious Crimes Court read out the sentence to Razi Abbasov, a member of the Muslim Unity Movement, who received 6 years in prison. At the same time, the police dispersed the believers gathered at the court, who came to observe the process. Five people were detained, including three members of the Muslim Unity, Imran Mammadli, Elgiz Mammadov and Agali Yahyaev, who were administratively arrested for 30 days. Two activists were released a few hours after the arrest.
One of them, Mail Karimov, said that after being detained, he was taken to the 22nd department of the Nasimi police, and from there to the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and tortured there. Suleyman Alekperov, another Muslim Unity activist, made a similar statement.
On May 23, at a press conference, he said that beatings and torture were accompanied by insults, including against Allah. After these statements, the Ministry of Internal Affairs called them unfounded and false. -06B-
