Tenor Yusif Eyvazov to head opera theatre in Baku
Baku/07.04.23/Turan: Azerbaijani opera singer Yusif Eyvazov has been appointed director of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater.
Best known as a dramatic tenor, Eivazov has performed at renowned opera houses, such as the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, Vienna State Opera, Bolshoi Theatre and the Opéra National de Paris, etc.
Also, he is a Grand Prix winner at an international competition in Italy and was awarded the Gianandrea Gavazzeni Medal of Honour.
His wife is the world opera star Anna Netrebko.
Eyvazov, who is preparing between opera tours for the Arena di Verona summer festival in Italy, has not yet commented on the appointment.
The Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater has been functioning since the beginning of 1911. At that time, the theater, built with the money of Azerbaijani millionaire Zeynalabdin Tagiyev, was called the "Bolshoi Opera Theater of the Mailov Brothers", who implemented the project.
At present, the theatre is undergoing renovation. Until now the theatre was headed by honoured art worker of Azerbaijan Akif Melikov.-0-
