Six young activists arrested administratively for participating in a protest on December 29 at Fountain Square in Baku appeal against their arrest on January 7. Previously the young people went on a hunger strike in protest against the ill-treatment and poor conditions in prison. One of them, Orhan Eyubzade, was handcuffed at night to a cold radiator, and before that he was beaten in the Sabail police.
The action of protest was held on December 29 in connection with the bureaucratic arbitrariness whch led a disabled Karabakh war veteran, Zaur Hasanov, to suicide. -06B-

On December 25, an Embraer 190 passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL), on a Baku–Grozny flight, crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Aktau, Ayxan Suleymanlı, stated that the plane had 67 people onboard, including crew members, 38 of whom died. According to him, 26 of the deceased were Azerbaijani citizens.
