Baku / 10.11.17 / Turan: The court session on the appeal of blogger Mehman Huseynov was postponed on November 16 in view of the defendant's not preparedness to speak.Today, at the beginning of the hearing at the Baku Court of Appeal, lawyers asked to give them time to consult their defender. In this regard, the judge announced a 15-minute break. After the break, the judge asked Huseynov if he was ready to speak. However, the lawyer Fuad Agayev, taking the floor, asked for time to prepare a blogger for the speech.
The judge granted the defense's request and postponed the hearing at 3.30 pm on 16 November.
According to the lawyer Fuad Agayev, the complaint will be considered with a partial judicial investigation. For such a decision of the Supreme Court, partially satisfied with the appeal of Huseynov.
Defense insists on summoning to court and questioning the private prosecutor of the head of the Nasimi police Musa Musayev.
"A man was convicted on his complaint, but he does not even know him. Let him come to court, so Mehman would know because of whom he was convicted," said the lawyer.
The defense believes that Musayev cannot be a private prosecutor in this case.
On the other hand, lawyers insist on requesting records from the security cameras in the Nasimi police and the place of detention of Huseynov.
The process aroused increased public interest. Not everyone could get into the meeting room.
Representatives of the US, Norway and EU missions attended the trial. Recall that the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan on September 29 partially satisfied the cassation appeal of Mehman Huseynov, returning his complaint to the Court of Appeal.
The reason for his arrest was his allegations of torture in the police in January this year. In response, the head of the Nasimi district police department of Baku Musa Musayev filed a libel suit.
The Surakhani District Court on May 3 sentenced Huseynov to two years in prison, finding him guilty of libel (art. 147 CC).
Mehman Huseynov is known for his numerous videos about the corruption of high-ranking officials in the satirical online magazine Sancaq. He is recognized as a political prisoner. -B06-
