The Court of Appeal leaves Bayram Mammadov in custody
The Baku Court of Appeal considered an appeal against the extension of the arrest of Bayram Mammadov, the activist of NIDA Movement. The court dismissed the appeal, leaving the activist under arrest. Mammadov and other activists - Gias Ibrahimov were arrested on May 10, and two days later Khatai District Court of Baku arrested them for four months on a charge of possession of large amount of drugs. In court the activists said that gave a confession under torture. In fact, the reason for their arrest, as stated the activists, became the inscriptions made on the monument to Heydar Aliyev: "Happy slaves" and "Down with the system." Both activists have been declared by Amnesty International «prisoners of conscience». -16D-

Last night, three earthquakes occurred along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border with magnitudes of 4.8, 3.0, and 3.8, according to the Republican Center for Seismological Service of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported no information about any destruction or casualties as a result of the earthquakes.
