The Court of Appeal refused to re-investigate the Ibrahimovs case
Baku / 14.02.18 / Turan: A preliminary session on the case of youth activist Giyas Ibrahimov and his father Hasan Ibrahimov finished today at the Baku Court of Appeal. The father and son were found guilty under Article 289.2 (disrespect for the judge) of the Criminal Code. The Yasamal district court appointed Giyas Ibrahimov 3 months in prison, in addition to 10 years earlier imprisonment.
Hasan Ibrahimov was sentenced to 1.5 years of correctional labor with a monthly retention of 20% of earnings. On February 6, a preliminary hearing began in the Baku Court of Appeal, on which Zibeyda Sadigova's lawyer spoke with a tap to the composition of this court, since it was his judges who brought to justice the father and son of the Ibrahimovs. Today at the beginning of the meeting it was announced that the leadership of the court rejected the challenge.
Further, lawyer Elchin Sadigov petitioned for consideration of the appeal with a partial judicial investigation. He explained this by the fact that the three judges of the appellate court who complained to the Ibrahimovs did not appear in the court of first instance and did not give evidence. However, the judge did not grant the petition and ordered a substantive hearing at 15:00 on 21 February.
This criminal case was initiated in connection with the incident on June 5 of this year in the Baku Court of Appeal, when Giyas Ibrahimov, during a public prosecutor's speech, tore off a microphone in a glass cage (Giyas Ibrahimov and Bairam Mammadov were sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment on charges of drug trafficking after how they wrote political slogans on the monument to Heydar Aliyev).
This happened after the judge ignored the calls of Giyas that he did not hear anything. Judicial warders entered the cage and handcuffed Ibrahimov, using brute force. The rebellious father of the activist protested, urging the judge to stop the violence. "There will come a day when this will happen to your children," he exclaimed. The judges of the Baku Appeals Court Vugar Mammadov, Aflatun Gasimov and Amir Bayramov regarded this as disrespect for themselves. -03B06-

Amid the bustling scenes of this year’s COP29 climate conference, a protest against whaling and deep-sea mining, organized by a group calling itself the FINS Initiative, drew significant attention from delegates and observers. However, questions have arisen about the legitimacy of the group, as an internet search yields little evidence of its existence beyond scattered mentions.
