The court released the editor accused of racketeering
Baku / 10.05.18 / Turan: Chief editor of "Bizim Dovr" newspaper, Surkhay Aliyev, and his deputy, Hikmet Najafli, were released today in the courtroom. The Baku Serious Crimes Court has passed them, accused of carrying out covert filming for extortion and racketeering, conditional punishment with a trial period of 2 years.
Other persons have also been convicted conditionally - Maarif Abbasov, Ilaha Gasimova and Gulbeniz Aliyeva, who are involved in this case.
At the same time, an employee of the newspaper Sevinj Mamedsalaeva was sentenced to imprisonment for a period of 6.5 years.
The editor-in-chief of the newspaper Gundelik Baku, Gabil Veliyev, and the editor of Bizim Dovr, Aliyev, his deputy Najafli were arrested during a special operation of the State Security Service in December 2016.
They were charged with concealed filming, in violation of the law on operational search activity, racketeering and extortion by threats. -05D06--

In a bid to modernize and regulate the taxi industry in Baku, mobile patrols of the state traffic police have launched a series of raids aimed at ensuring that taxi drivers comply with newly established requirements.
