The court upholds the claim of journalist against the journalist OCD MIA
On 24 May the Baku Administrative-Economic Court N2 satisfied the claim of the editor of the newspaper "Yukselish Namine", human rights activist Elchin Mammad against the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Interior to fight organized crime.
The decision was made by the judge Rustam Kerimli. According to Mammadov, the lawsuit was filed against unlawful detention in May last year at the Baku airport on the return from the PACE session and a ban on leaving the country. After an 8-month trial, the claim was satisfied and the actions of the Main Directorate’s actions were deemed illegal.
Mammad recalled that on May 29, 2015 upon arrival in Baku was detained and taken to the Main Directorate, where he was kept for about 12 hours. Later he was told that a ban on his leaving the country, which was violation of the rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
"I was not presented any official decision on the reasons for arrest and the ban on leaving the country. I appealed to the relevant authorities and the international organization "Front Line Defenders", which appealed to the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan. After that I was again summoned to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Interior, and exerted psychological pressure because of complaints to international organizations," he said. -06B-
