The dead soldier was awarded the title of National Hero
On Tuesday the President Ilham Aliyev signed an order on conferring Chingiz Salman oglu Gurbanov the title of "National Hero of Azerbaijan" (posthumously).
The soldier was awarded this title for "special merits in the defense of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and the personal bravery shown during a combat mission." On December 29 Gurbanov died during clashes on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. During the battle were killed three Armenian soldiers, including one officer. After the fight, the body of Chingiz Gurbanov remained on the Armenian side.
Since then, the Armenians refused to give Gurbanov’s body, holding him for over a month. Details of the battle were not disclosed, but the Armenian side reported that Azerbaijanis attacked the combat post and shot those who were there. The Azerbaijani side claims that it was the Armenians who tried to make a diversionary raid and were discarded.
One of the Armenian websites, with reference to the Armenian military admitted that in the course of the battle Chingiz Gurbanov showed special courage and boldness. -02D-
