The judge threatens human rights activist Rasul Jafarov (UPDATED)

Sheki Serious Crimes Court continues trials on the events in Ismayilli, and in the afternoon continued the hearing of witnesses.

First  the executive secretary of the  REAL Movement, Natiq Jafarli and correspondent of the newspaper "Zerkalo", Nijat Melikov, who accompanied  the leader of  REAL Movement,  Ilgar Mamedov, in his trip to Ismailly, gave testimonies.

Both witnesses said they were together with Mamedov  in Ismailly for  just one hour, from 16:00 to 17:00 . During this period there were not clashes between residents and the police. Mamedov just talked to the assembled people.

Witnesses also answered questions from the prosecutor and judge.   Asking the question if they took a gas mask with them , Jafarli said, “of course not, we were not going to Palestine.”

Then  gave testimony residents  of Ismailly region, Rovshan Novruzov and Israfil Verdiyev. They have claimed that they saw  how Mamedov and deputy chairman of the "Musavat"  party, Tofig Yagublu, incited people to riot

However , their testimony  was contrary to the testimony of other witnesses and  caused discontent in the hall; but the judge  for unknown  reason accused the  human rights activist, Rasul Jafarov  of clapping. When human rights activist said he did not do that, the judge said, "then you  was talking," and demanded that Jafarov left the room. When Jafarov said that "the court is not fair ", and the judge ordered the police to take away his identity card, and copy  it to "take measures."

Till the end of the  trial the police interviewed  Jafarov , and then released him.

The meeting will continue on January 27. -06С-

In the Sheki Court of Grave Crimes today were continued hearings on the Ismayilli events.

Before the meeting, the lawyers told the accused Tofig Yagublu about yesterday's car accident which his wife and daughter, the lawyer Khalid Bagirov and an activist of the party Musavat Chinghiz Ali, who were injured.

Yagublu was allowed to contact his family by telephone.

During the trial, 19 witnesses and two victims were questioned. As the human rights activist Rasul Jafarov told Turan, the interrogated did not give any evidence against the accused.

Two victims were guests of the hotel Chirag . These Baku residents were recognized victims just because they could not sleep because of the hotel arson.

Damages caused to them were estimated at AZN 40 each .

They stated that they have no claims against the defendants and wish them the soonest release.

Responding to the judge's question whether they had submitted a complaint about the damage , the victims made it clear that they were forced to do so.

The witnesses also said they had not identified any of the rioters.

It is noteworthy that the witnesses to the events of January 24 said that clashes between police and local residents began at nightfall. This refutes the investigators about the organization and involvement in the riots of Yagublu and the leader of REAL Ilgar Mamedov. Because according to the very same investigation they were in Ismayilli between 16.00 and 17.00 .

Despite the persistent questions of the prosecutor, the witnesses answered unequivocally that the events occurred in the evening after dark .

Some of the witnesses had been held in administrative detention. They said that they were just caught on the street. One of them is a car wash worker, who said that closing the facility, he went home and the police detained him without understanding who he was.

In the afternoon the trial will hear the testimony of witnesses, who came to Ismayilli with Ilgar Mamedov. -06D-
