The lawsuit between Aslan Ismayilov and Hafiz Hajiyev
Baku/07.02.18/Turan: A trial on the suit of the head of the "Modern Musavat" party Hafiz Hajiyev against the well-known lawyer and public figure Aslan Ismayilov was held in the Sabail district court of Baku today. The court decided to appoint an expert examination to find out whether there were insults in Ismayilov's statements against Hajiyev, and postponed the hearing indefinitely.
Lawyer Aslan Ismayilov was brought to trial as a private prosecution and convicted. Such a decision was made on February 1 by the judge of the Sabail District Court Azer Tagiyev.
The head of the party "Modern Musavat" Hafiz Hajiyev filed a private lawsuit against Ismayilov on articles 147 (libel) and 148 (insult) of the Criminal Code. On February 1, Ismayilov was forcibly taken to court by the police and convicted. Ismayilov said the claim was unfounded. He believes that Hajiyev is used as a means to punish Ismayilov for exposing corruption in the National Center of Oncology, selling psychotropic medicines in the pharmacies without a prescription.
Before that, Ismayilov himself sued the court for defamation on the part of Hajiyev. Proceedings were delayed. When Ismayilov protested against the court's decision without his participation, the lawyer started a criminal case, accusing him of hooliganism.
Speaking before the start of the court session, Ismayilov accused Ali Hasanov, the presidential aide on socio-political issues, of organizing harassment. He also blamed the destruction of the media, civil society, the use of official position for personal enrichment and selfish ends.
Ismayilov said that he and those who came to defend him will not retreat before the pressure and will continue to fight for a democratic and just society.-03C06-
