The event takes place in a jubilee year, the 30th anniversary of the first Soviet Himalayan expedition to Everest and the 20th anniversary of the first Russian expedition to Everest. The congress will bring together legends of Soviet mountaineering, the stars and the strongest climbers from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Latvia, Georgia, Lithuania, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The guest of honor is the new president of the Congress UIAA Fritz Vridzhlandt.
The program of the international meeting includes film and video footage of climbing, slide shows, "the story of conquering Everest 1907 - 1953 GG", a photo exhibition, an exhibition of unique materials from the Museum of Sport, solemn presentation sign, the “Climber to Everest.”
Azerbaijan will be represented at the Congress by Israfil Ashurly, President of the National Federation of mountaineering who, to date, is the only person in the country to climb Mount Everest,.
"First Congress of climbers on Everest was held in May 2003 in the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu. Then at the personal invitation of King of Nepal met the Everest climbers from all over the world. It is about climbers of former Soviet Union, but it is the second mass meeting after the meeting in Nepal. The event is taking place in Jubilee years, not only for the Soviet and Russian mountaineering. This year marks five years to the day when the Azerbaijani flag was raised over the highest point of the planet. I still can not believe that I was given the honor to do it. I am sure that we in Azerbaijan will also be given due consideration to future anniversaries in the history of Russian mountaineering "- said Ashurly.
"I am confident that in the very near future, our young climbers will join the list of conquerors of Everest. Federation of recent years, is successfully implementing a project to train young altitude national team. For the past two seasons, the young climbers twice on different routes conquered Ibn Sina Peak (formerly Lenin Peak 7134m), climbed the peaks Korjenevskaya (7105 m) and Ismail Somoni (formerly Communism, 7495m). We are talking only about sports and expeditions and do not consider part of our climbers in commercial expeditions and did not provide the services of hired tour guides. We are growing a strong generation of climbers able to solve interesting problems in the high mountains, " said Ashurly.-02D-
