The Supreme Court upholds the sentence Anar Mammadli guilty
The Azerbaijani Supreme Court today rejected an appeal against Anar Mammadli, the head of the Center for Monitoring Elections and Democracy Training, leaving in force for a guilty verdict. Protection disagrees and intends to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), he told Turan's lawyer Elchin Sadigov. According to him, earlier the ECHR was addressed first complaint of Mammadli for unlawful arrest. On this complaint has already ended communication with the Government of Azerbaijan and the issue is in the process of decision making.
Anar Mammadli was arrested on 17 December 2013, and was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for illegal business activities, abuse of office and tax evasion. On December 10, 2014 Baku Appeal Court upheld the verdict. Amnesty International Organization Anar Mammadli declared a prisoner of conscience. He was awarded a prestigious international prize named after Vaclav Havel.
The real reason for the arrest and conviction of Mammadli is his participation in the election monitoring Azerbaijan, which proved the falsification of the results and denounced the direct involvement of the authorities in these processes. -06D--
