The trial in the case of war veterans in Syria
Preparatory meeting in the case of five Azerbaijani citizens accused of involvement in the fighting in Syria began in the Baku Serious Crimes Court chaired by Enver Seyidov. Before the Court: Tural, Elvin Aliyev, Farid Muradov, Namik Mammadov, Ruslan Mustafayev. According to the lawyer Elmar Suleymanov, the advocates submitted a petition on the release of the accused from the iron cage, as it is contrary to the case law of the European Court of Human Rights and is inhuman treatment. However, the court rejected the petition. The lawyers also petitioned the court to stop and return the case for re-investigation. The court did not grant this petition, a hearing on April 6. Lawyer Suleymanov considers unreasonable prosecution of his client, because the investigation did not provide conclusive evidence of guilt.
"Many people go there, and return after seeing the real picture. That is, they come back, refusing to participate in hostilities. However, they have been brought to justice, as war participants, what is wrong," said the lawyer.
The defendants in this case are present in the list of 26 Azerbaijanis detained by the Ministry of National Security on charges of involvement in the fighting in Syria. -16D-
