Trial in the "Nardaran -2" case

Today in the Baku Serious Crimes Court the accused started giving testimonies.

Defendants in the court is the deputy chairman of the Movement "Muslim unity" Elchin Gasimov and 11 other believers. Elchin Gasimov was arrested administratively for 30 days on November 5, 2015. Three weeks later, on January 26, Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted a special operation in Nardaran, arresting about 15 members of the Movement "Muslim unity, including its leader - Thale Bagirzade.

After 30 days, Gasimov was accused of trying to seize power, terrorism, and  on similar charges have  been arrested another 10 people: Agha Yahyayev,  Mahir Gahramanov, Seyfaddin Shirvani, Ramil Aliyev, Farhad Muradov, Elgun Akhundov, Vusal Alish, Seymour Aslanov, Ali Shakhbazov, Amirali Aliyev and Isa Ibragimov.

Today Elchin Gasimov said  that the  charges are artificial and falseness.

"If we would have a weapon, we would go to liberate Karabakh, and if the Movement "Muslim unity" pursued illicit purposes, it would not apply for registration in the Ministry of Justice",  Gasimov said.

He noted that  on November 5, 2015 he was detained when he  was going  near the 14th police station in the village of Mashtaga. From there he was taken to Sabunchu district police department, and brought to the head of the department.

Gasimov was beaten and  tortured stun. Then they made protocol, and in court without a lawyer  he was sentenced to 30 days in jail for not subordinating  police. Then  a lawsuit was filed against Gasimov, and he was sent to jail Kurdakhani where in cold weather  he was kept overnight in the yard.

On 14-24 December, Gasimov was held in the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime Ministry of Internal Affairs, where he was subjected to severe torture, demanding to testify against Thale Bagirzade, PFPA leader Ali Kerimli, the National Council of Democratic Forces.

Gasimov gave testimonies against himself only  on  December 21, when  the police threatened to arrest his father or brother. He also received death threats, allegedly while trying to escape.

Another defendant, Agali Yahyayev said about torture in Sabunchu police, where he and other detainees  were stripped,  current was applied to their bodies, and then they were dragged across the floor.

According to the accused, the arrested were forced to sign blank sheets of paper.
