The Baku Court of Grave Crimes began the trial of the deputy chairman of the party Musavat Faraj Kerimli accused of drug possession.
The lawyer Nemat Karimli told Turan he petitioned for the release of the accused from the iron cage for the efficient organization of effective defense of the accused and the conduct of the process record.
However, the judge did not grant these requests.
Further, the trial announced the indictment.
After that, the floor was given to F. Kerimli.
The latter reported the political motives of his prosecution and denied all the charges.
However, he refused to testify at this stage of the investigation.
The judge scheduled the next hearing for April 1.
F. Kerimli was arrested July 23, 2014, and on 24 July the court arrested him for three months. On the same charges on July 17, was arrested the activist’s brother Siraj Kerimli, who recently was sentenced to 6 years in prison.
In the Musavat they believe that the brothers Kerimli are persecuted for opposition activities and activities on Facebook.
After his arrest F. Karimli was elected deputy chairman of Musavat in absentia. Both brothers are recognized by Amnesty International as "prisoners of conscience". -16B-
