Trial of Rasul Jafarov is appointed for January 15
On January 15, the Baku Serious Crimes Court scheduled a preliminary hearing on the case of human rights defender Rasul Jafarov. The case will be considered by Judge Eldar Ismailov, told Turan's lawyer Fariz Namazly. Protection considers unfounded accusation and intends to ask the court to acquit Jafarov. It is expected that the preparatory meeting is supposed to nominate a number of applications.
Coordinator of the human rights campaign "Art for Democracy", Jafarov, was arrested on August 2, 2014. He was charged under Articles 192 of the Criminal Code (illegal business), 213 (tax evasion), and 308 (abuse of power.) On October 23 deadline for his arrest was extended for another three months. Amnesty International recognized Jafarov as “prisoner of conscience.”- 06B-

Last night, three earthquakes occurred along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border with magnitudes of 4.8, 3.0, and 3.8, according to the Republican Center for Seismological Service of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported no information about any destruction or casualties as a result of the earthquakes.
