Will Nijat Guliyev Be Allowed to Take Part in Funeral of His Father?
84-year-old Amir Guliyev, the father of the jailed former Minister of Foreign Economic Relations Nijat Guliyev died. Amir Guliyev was seriously ill and the last days of life he was being treated in hospital.
However, despite appeals from Guliyev's lawyer to the management of the Prison Service to allow the convict to say the last farewell to his dying father, such permission was not given, although the law allows it.
The defense hopes that Guliyev will be allowed to take part in the funeral of his father.
Nijat Guliyev was arrested in August 2013 and sentenced to three years in prison on charges of illegal possession of firearms. He denied the charges. The real reason for his arrest, according to observers, was that he advised the opposition candidate, Rustam Ibrahimbekov before the presidential election of 2013. -05B04-
