Zamin Salaev was returned from the hospital to the pre-trial detention center despite his health problems
Baku/07.06.23/Turan: Health of Zamin Salayev, the head of the Salyan region organization of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) has deteriorated, a lawyer Nemat Kerimli tolde after today's telephone conversation with him.
"His legs are swollen, his kidneys are not functioning. Nevertheless, he was returned from a medical institution to a pre-trial detention center, although after the end of a long hunger strike, he needed serious treatment," Kerimli said.
According to him, Salayev's sentence has been appealed, but the date of the appeal has not yet been set.
*Zamin Salayev was detained on February 7, and the next day the Garadagh court arrested him on charges of hooliganism with the use of weapons (Article 221.3 of the Criminal Code). Since his detention, Salayev has been on a hunger strike demanding his release. On May 22, the court sentenced him to 4 years in prison. On June 1, on the 115th day of the hunger strike, he stopped the action after giving him assurances that the Court of Appeal would objectively consider his complaint.
The US Embassy in Baku called on the authorities to release Salayev and other political prisoners. ---16B06---
