Hilal Mamedov"s Father Appeals to President Ilham Aliyev
Professor Alif Mamedov, father of Hilal Mamedov, the editor of "Tolyshi Sado", who was arrested on June 21 on charges of treason and espionage, made a statement. He called the allegations false and said that for more than 60 years, he has worked as a teacher, he has proved his devotion to the motherland, and nurtured thousands of honest and educated people.
According to him, Hilal Mamedov loves his motherland. Even as a young man, he published articles on mathematics in the leading publications in Europe and the world. He has also published articles on culture, traditions, history, ethnography and folklore of the Talysh people. This activity was used to discredit him and to mislead public opinion. In his opinion, the authors of these fictitious charges against Hilal Mamedov are enemies of Azerbaijan.
"I want that the president of the country, who is the guarantor of citizens' constitutional rights, put an end to injustice against Hilal Mamedov. I want to believe in the triumph of justice," said Alif Mamedov in his statement. -03D04-

In a bit of historic irony, powerful oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili has managed to inspire rare unity across Georgia’s cacophonous political scene twice in his life. His money and influence forged the broad-based consolidation of opposition forces that brought him to power in 2012, and now, 12 years and three electoral cycles later, a similar pattern of opposition convergence could send him packing.
