Opposition Politicians Condemn Arrest of Elder in Nardaran
The Azerbaijani opposition politicians condemn the arrest of the elder of Nardaran Natig Kerimov and compare the police operation in the village with Stalin's repression.
The head of the National Council Jamil Hasanli on his Facebook page wrote that Nardaran has been in the blockade for 1.5 months, with gas, electricity and water supply ceased. During the raid on November 26 the authorities arrested the head of the movement Muslim Unity Taleh Bagirzade and a group of believers. At the same time, seven people were killed.
All this time in Nardaran arrests are continuing, and the elder of the village Natig Kerimov was arrested on ridiculous charges of treason.
"Natig Kerimov, a member of the National Council, is the elder that is completely tied to the nation and the state. He is a believer, far from radicalism, with active citizenship. The charges are very serious and, more recently such charges were brought against Leyla and Arif Yunus, Hilal Mamedov, and Rauf Mirkadyrov. Now the threat is hovering over everyone in Nardaran. Last time such a massive repression in one village were carried out in 1937," Hasanli said.
So, in 1937 in the village Kurtmashy of the Ismayilli region all males aged 16 to 76 years were arrested. Allegedly, they were planning to overthrow the Soviet regime.
At the same time, investigators - mostly Armenians - demanded from women prisoners to testify that their husbands had guns.
After 80 years, in independent Azerbaijan about the same fate is facing residents of Nardaran. The whole population is suffering from the charge against Bagirzade and his comrades, meaning the allegations of their attempts to overthrow the constitutional order.
"Under the pretext of searching for weapons the Interior Ministry officers break into houses, bringing terror to women and children," Hasanli wrote.
There are also reports of torture of detainees, and in particular it became known that Bagirzade had his nose broken.
In turn, the leader of the Popular Front Party Ali Kerimli noted that Natig Kerimov always called his villagers for restraint. As a member of the National Council, he always advocated peaceful methods of political struggle.
Kerimov as a member of the National Council is a co-author of the declaration of Azerbaijan's integration into the EU. It is absurd to accuse Kerimov of treason, said Kerimli. -06D-

Modern wars test humanity's resilience, compelling a reevaluation of priorities and values. In such times, it is especially crucial to demonstrate not only strength but also a commitment to the principles of international law and humanity. Ukraine, facing an unprecedented scale of armed aggression from the Russian Federation, continues to uphold the norms of international humanitarian law (IHL) while resisting this aggression. The Voluntary Report presented by Ukraine's Ministry of Defense has become a symbol of transparency, accountability, and the pursuit of justice.
