The presidential elections to be held on April 11, 2018 differ not only by the absence of real alternative to the incumbent president and candidate Ilham Aliyev, but also by the fact that the seven candidates behave so that the voters do not even think to vote for them.
The CEC registered eight candidates for the presidency. From the ruling New Azerbaijan Party Ilham Aliyev; candidate from the Party of the United Popular Front of Azerbaijan - Gudrat Hasanguliyev; candidate from the Social Democratic Party - Araz Alizadeh; candidate from the Party of the National Revival Movement - Faraj Guliyev; candidate from the Initiative Front-line Party - Razi Nurullayev; candidate from the Party "Modern Musavat" - Hafiz Hajiyev; self-nominated Zahid Oruj, and the candidate from Democratic Party - Sardar Jalaloglu (Mamedov.)
Razi Nurullayev
The presidential candidate Razi Nurullayev is a young politician unknown to Azerbaijanis. The "Initiative group of front-line soldiers" that put him forward is also unknown. Nurullayev did not show himself in power or in opposition. He represents himself as a figure of civil society, but surprised voters by demonstrating faith simultaneously in three religions - Christianity, Islam and Judaism. In the same suit and tie he was photographed during a prayer in a mosque, a synagogue, and a church. It is unlikely that after this there will be a Muslim, a Christian, and a Jew who would like to vote for him.
Sardar Jalaloglu
The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sardar Jalaloglu, proposed an anti-constitutional idea - the creation of the Azerbaijani-Turkish confederation. His pre-election proposal is unconstitutional because, according to the constitution, Azerbaijan is an independent presidential republic, which since 2011 is a member of the Non-Aligned Movement. And any confederation means giving up part of sovereign rights. Jalaloglu is known by a point in the electoral program about the adoption of the law on alternative forms of the family, and one of them is the Shiite siga (siga - means a woman who agrees to become a wife for a certain period by the agreement of a man and a woman, and the confirmation of the mullah.)
The candidate for presidency from the ADP speaks about theology and gives such conclusions: "Allah says that some people have become monkeys and pigs. Hence, Allah says that some species of monkeys originated from man. This also means that the person was divided into two parts: from his one part was originated a monkey, and from another part - a pig. That is, the essence of people passed to these animals. This is the reason for the ban on eating pork in Islam. The pig came originated from a man. If someone eats pork, then he eats human beings," from his speeches in the media ...
Hafiz Hajiyev
Chairman of the Muasir Musavat party, Hafiz Hajiyev, is concerned about his security. He warned that unnamed officials want to kill him. Then he said that "certain forces acting under the dictation of some diplomatic missions accredited in Azerbaijan put pressure on him." Hafiz Hajiyev calls Ilham Aliyev his brother - this is the first time in the world election practice when an electoral candidate calls his brother the main competitor. He is known for his original promises to cut off the ears of the writer and pour acid on men wearing shorts. After this statement, Hafiz was seen in one of the recreation centers in shorts.
Gudrat Hasanguliyev
Candidate for the presidency of the United Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, G. Hasanguliyev, unveiled an electoral platform, the essence of which is indistinguishable from the promises of the incumbent president. The slogans of Hasanguliyev are also surprisingly faceless - for the presidential election Gudrat Hasanguliyev will go with two main slogans - "We can", "Rely on yourself and on us." In 2008, he proposed to change the name of the country, but ten years later this idea is not seen in his platform.
Araz Alizadeh
The deputy of Milli Majlis, the leader of the Social Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (SDPA), Araz Alizade, openly declares that not he, but Ilham Aliyev will win the elections. Then why does Alizade waste time and money to participate in the elections? To show himself and his party, - explained the presidential candidate, who knows that he will not become president. His foreign policy program is specific. In one of his speeches, Alizade said that if Azerbaijan did not help, Georgia would have died of hunger.

Zahid Oruj
The deputy of the Milli Majlis, Zahid Oruj, is known for clear and correct parliamentary speeches. But sometimes his correct words can be misunderstood, especially when referring to Shiite Muslims: "When I see at the Ashura event the children who do not understand the essence of religion, clothed in hijab, niqah, I think that kamikazes are growing, who will be sent in the future to Syria."
Faraj Guliyev
The candidate from the Party of the National Revival Movement, is its chairman, Faraj Guliyev. The people almost do not know him, since Guliyev is politically passive, and appears in public from election to election. Faraj Guliyev was surprised by the call to abandon any allied relations with Russia. "We should treat Russia according to the principle:" The friend of my enemy is my enemy. "We must strive for NATO. We have no other way out, but we can create another bloc - a new geopolitical axis from the Turkic republics under the leadership of Turkey." It is hard to imagine that citizens of the country belonging to non-Türkic ethnic groups will vote for Guliyev.
Ilham Aliyev
The eighth presidential candidate is the current head of the country, I. Aliyev. He did not appear with the election program; he did not appear on TV debates. His representatives say that everything is fine in Azerbaijan, and after Aliyev's reelection for a seven-year term everything will be even better. After such a promise and listening to the "pre-election platforms" of other candidates, Azerbaijanis are simply forced to vote for I. Aliyev.
