Azerbaijan handed over 15 detained Armenians to Armenia in exchange for maps of minefields
Baku/12.06.21/Turan: On July 12, Azerbaijan handed over 15 detained Armenians to Armenia in exchange for the transfer of more than 97,000 anti-tank and anti-personnel mines in the Agdam region.
The transfer took place with the participation of representatives of Georgia on the Azerbaijani-Georgian border, the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported.
"We express our gratitude for the support of the Georgian Government headed by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili in carrying out this humanitarian action. At the same time, we particularly note the contribution to this process and the mediation role of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken , US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Ricker, EU Council President Charles Michel and the Swedish OSCE Chairmanship," the report says.
Obtaining mining cards will save the lives and health of tens of thousands of citizens, including sappers, and accelerate the implementation of the project for the restoration and return of internally displaced persons launched in Aghdam, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a press release.—06D-

Azerbaijan is positioning itself as a key energy partner for Europe amidst growing challenges in the natural gas market following the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine. The disruption, marking the end of a decade-long transit route, is expected to heighten competition in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market and drive up prices for alternative energy sources.
