Caspian Agro Week: The Agricultural Sector at a Stage of Structural Transformation

In recent days, the April issue of the “Export Review” published by the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC) reported that sugar exports in January–March of the current year increased by 4.5 times compared to the same period last year .

According to data provided by the State Statistics Committee, 567.0 million eggs were produced in January–March 2026, which is 2.8% less compared to the corresponding period of 2025. However, the head of the Azerbaijan Poultry Meat, Egg Producers and Exporters Association stated in a press comment that “production has absolutely not decreased”

The Chamber of Accounts, as a result of an audit evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of state support in the crop production sector covering the years 2022–2025, has identified a number of serious financial violations and inconsistencies in the activities of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Agrarian Credit and Development Agency (ACDA), and the Agrarian Subsidy Council.

In recent years, a significant increase in onion production has been observed in Azerbaijan. At the same time, farmers face serious difficulties in the cultivation, storage, and sale of their produce. This situation has persisted for many years. Although there are many storage facilities in the country to store the harvested products, a large number of these warehouses are not equipped with the necessary facilities for proper agricultural storage. As a result, part of the produce spoils and rots in these warehouses.
