Why has a crisis been brewing in Gedabei for years? Why were the voices of the residents not heard?
Baku/22.06.23/Turan: A crisis has been brewing in Gedabey for years, and the voices of the residents have gone unheard. Reports indicate that a police post has been established at the entrance of Seyudlu village in the Gedabey district, where protests have been occurring for the past few days. Villagers claim that entry and exit from the village are restricted, with identity card checks and vehicle inspections at the post.
Non-residents face difficulties entering the village, as mourners attending funerals from neighboring villages were initially denied entry. The villagers feel they are living under a blockade. Police Captain Eshgin Gasimov, chief inspector of the Ganja regional group of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), confirmed to Turan limited access to the village.
In response to the situation, a commission was established on June 21 under the order of Prime Minister Ali Asadov to investigate the circumstances in Seyudlu village. The commission's mandate includes monitoring the current situation at the landfill near Seyudlu, addressing citizen's concerns regarding health and environmental protection, and submitting proposals to the Cabinet of Ministers based on their findings.
Former deputy Nazim Beidemirli shed light on the situation in Gedabey during an interview on the program "A Difficult Question." He revealed that the authorities were well aware of the issues in Seyudlu village, as numerous complaints, court cases, and reports about environmental damage and the illegal appropriation of village pastures by a gold mining enterprise had been submitted. However, the relevant department of the Ministry of Justice and the local Executive Power consistently favored the gold miners, subjecting citizens to administrative pressure. Frustrated by this lack of action, the villagers resorted to protest actions.
Beidemirli argued that the government should not have ignored the problem and that violations of rights and harassment of citizens are unacceptable. He called for an end to such actions and expressed disapproval of the rhetoric and actions of the head of the Gedabey district's Executive Power, as well as the blockade of the village. Beidemirli further highlighted that the Executive Power of the Gedabey district formalized the illegal seizure of pastures belonging to the villagers.
