Authorities Impose Restrictions on Currency Export
At an extraordinary session of parliament on January 19 it is expected to adopt changes and amendments to several legislative acts to restrict the export of currency from the country. This was announced by the head of the Central Bank Elman Rustamov at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on economic and legal policy.
In particular, the proposed amendments to the law "On currency regulation" provide for the introduction of 20% levy on volume of currency exported for the purpose of investment, the acquisition of securities, real estate and land. This fee does not apply to the export of currency for treatment, studies and the execution of court decisions abroad, Rustamov said.
Rustamov also said that the government proposes from February 1 to lift restrictions on bank deposit insurance. Until now, insurance concerned only amounts up to 30 thousand manats or US dollars.
These changes are provided for in the law "On deposit insurance coverage," Rustamov said, noting that the interest rate on manat deposits will be higher than in foreign currency. -02D-
